This program aims to drive innovation, build on natural advantages, and help raise Queensland's profile as an attractive investment destination. It seeks to position Queensland as a place where entrepreneurs, industry, universities and government collaborate to turn great ideas into commercial products and businesses that create jobs.

Advance Queensland is a comprehensive suite of programs, based on international evidence of ''what works'', designed to reinvigorate science and innovation to help create the well-paid, knowledge-based jobs of the future which will attract and retain world-class scientific and entrepreneurial talent.

The program was announced as part of the 2015-16 State Budget of Queensland with an initial funding pool of $180 million. An additional investment of $225 million has been committed by the Queensland government in the 2016-17 State budget, bringing the total funding pool to $405 million which will be available over four years.

As announced in the 2017-18 State Budget, the government has increased its investment to the Advance Queensland initiative taking the government’s total commitment to $420 million.
